Selective Memory 009

I went to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize this weekend. Wow... Seriously...
The attached image is from a photographer who made portraits with
Kodachrome slide film before they stopped processing this beloved film. More info: http://www.artprize.org/artists/public-profile/91631

For those not in the know (and I, myself, wasn't in the know until
last spring) ArtPrize is an art festival/international art competition
that takes over the city of Grand Rapids, MI for almost 3 weeks. 2D,
3D, installation, and performance art are all on display. Only in the
third year, prize money is at $474,000 total with the top prize
fetching $250,000. Artists connect with venues, show their work, and
are voted on by the viewing public. Exhibiting venues range from
coffee shops to the Grand Rapids Art Museum. In a one day trip I went
to only about 6 of the 100+ venues participating. I'm going back if I
can fit it into my schedule!!!

Filippo Tagliati, a colleague and friend who many of you know, was in
the top 25 in his "neighborhood" when I visited. Amazing! He is in the
Heartside neighborhood, BTW. After one week of voting (ending
September 28th) they narrow it down to the top 10 and voting begins
again. The best of the top 10 gets the top prize.
