Selective Memory 004

The above image is from my last apartment in Phoenix, which I've
been missing lately. Within two weeks of being in my new place in
Michigan, the bathroom flooded (a leak from behind the wall) and water leaked under the floor into my studio. Luckily no art or equipment was damaged but the entire floor needed to be replaced. So the contents of my studio have been in the living room for at least a week. Not the fresh start I was hoping for...

In other news, classes begin on Monday at Central Michigan University
although much of the faculty may not be in the classroom. The Faculty
Association is a union of tenured and tenure-track faculty who have
been in contract negotiations for months. They have not reached an
agreement and have approved a work action, which may lead to not
teaching on Monday. Points of contention include pay and benefits.

As a new member of the temporary (or fixed term) faculty, I am not a
member of the Faculty Association. I will be in class Monday morning
regardless. However, temporary faculty support the FA and have their
own union called the UTF (Union of Teaching Faculty), which represents the university’s 340 adjunct faculty members.

As a newbie, I have much to learn and look forward to getting involved
as I get settled here. Until then, I am still unpacking my studio and
getting ready for my first day at CMU.
